Fish
once primarily popular in only coastal, and fishing
communities has found itself in the meat markets, and
seafood outlets around the world. No matter where you live,
it is usually possible to get a variety of sea food year
round.
So is seafood good
for you? Generally yes, it is very good for you, rich in
nutrients, essential oils, vitamins and much more. In fact
usually it depends more on how fish is prepared, which
determines how good it is for you. Broiled with a light
sauce, fish can be a great addition to your diet. Deep fried
in lard, not so good. While you get the seafood, you are
also getting the batter soaked in animal fat, so you have
somewhat defeated the purpose of having fish in the first
place.
What about raw fish.
Certain types of sea food, such as sushi, and oysters are
popular served raw. There is a danger if the fish has not
been refrigerated well, prepared well, or improperly
harvested that certain ailments can arise from eating sea
food products. These are, in most cases rare, and if you are
preparing raw seafood yourself, using clean utensils and
avoiding cross contamination from other foods will keep the
raw seafood lovers happy and healthy!
New to
seafood, is fish farming, which although controversial, has
made available more fish, such as salmon for more consumers
around the world. Salmon is an excellent main course to
build a meal around. Salmon is usually broiled, pan fried or
can be barbequed.
