A newcomer to our foods is the Trans Fat. This was/is a
replacement for what was often an animal fat or lard in
foods. The problem is that Trans Fat is generally accepted
as being as bad or worse than the animal fats which were in
foods. The worst thing about it, is that some foods were labeled
"no fat" or "low fat" when in fact they
contained large amount so Trans Fats. Look for fats which
say "hydrogenated" or "partially
hydrogenated" and do your best to reduce consumption of
these fats.
Many manufacturers are taking steps to remove them from
their products, but you can find them in everything from
candies and cookies, to diet foods and muti-grain breads.
Read the labels!
